As vehicle owners, we are responsible for the maintenance of our vehicles. Some of these maintenance tasks are optional, while others are mandatory. One of the vehicle parts we must maintain is the "license plate". Plates wear out over time, get old, and their paint peels off. In such cases, there are a number of corrections to be made. One of these is the process of repainting plates whose paint has peeled off. First of all, how is a license plate made?
Where are plates that need maintenance painted?
For the manufacturing process of license plates, the highway authorities send blank plates to official plate associations. The craftsman arranges the numbers and letters of the plate to be made, then the spaces between them are adjusted and placed on the blank plate. The embossed letters and numbers are created by applying pressure on the plate with an automatic plate press. The prepared plate is then fed into automatic painting machines, allowing the black paint to flow onto the letters and numbers. All plates are in a single font, single style, and single color. Before 2019, plates were repainted at official plate printing centers and industrial printing workshops. However, with a new regulation, this decoration process has been centralized. You can get your plates repainted at the "drivers' association" to their original condition. You can request painting from the drivers' association where you purchased your plate or from the drivers' association in your current province. The cost of repainting a license plate is approximately 24-25 TL. Plates made with thick fonts, different styles, and shapes are called "APP" plates and will cause your vehicle to be "severely defective". The penalty for APP plates is 475 TL. As of 2020, the appointment system for license plate renewal has been abolished. First, your vehicle's inspection period must not have expired. After obtaining the necessary documents, you go to the nearest notary public, who will direct you to the drivers' association, where you can renew or change your license plate without an appointment. The location of your residence or region is not important for license plate renewal and painting. First, you need to get documents from the notary public for this. If you are in a hurry, it is advisable not to choose busy provinces. The painting time can vary between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the workload.
