Winter Holiday and Uludağ Travel Guide
How to Get to Uludağ?
When you think of Bursa, Uludağ and İskender Kebab probably come to mind first. Uludağ, the indispensable holiday destination of the winter months and mid-term breaks… So, how do we get to Uludağ? If you are coming from Istanbul, there are sea plane services between Istanbul and Bursa; the planes dock at Budo Mudanya Port or Gemlik Port. For those coming from outside Istanbul, you can land at Yenişehir Airport and then take a shuttle bus to the center of Bursa. For those coming from Istanbul, there are also promotional tickets from Budo to Uludağ during the winter months. You can check them on Budo's website. Once you arrive in Bursa, you can reach the Uludağ hotels region by renting a car or using your own vehicle, with a wonderful journey of about 45 minutes to 1 hour. On this journey, which is both economical and offers a magnificent view, if you are lucky, you might encounter deer while passing through the national park.
You might encounter deer while passing through the Uludağ hotels. You have arrived at Uludağ, witnessing many natural beauties. Of course, you must have made your hotel reservation before arriving, but I would like to mention one or two hotels I have stayed in, know, and liked. The first is Grand Yazıcı Hotel. The back of the hotel has a mountain view, and the front overlooks a small hill and the ski slope. I was satisfied with the food, but the afternoon tea treats were insufficient for me. The staff are friendly and try to find quick solutions to your requests. Indoor pools and Wi-Fi are free, but many other things are paid, for example, the sauna and hammam… It is strange that these are paid here, as they are usually free in almost every hotel I have visited. It is a full-board hotel. Located in the 1st region, the hotel is very close to the slopes. There is live music with dinner in the evenings, creating a pleasant ambiance. Another hotel I like is Alkoçlar Hotel. Almost everywhere has a mountain view. The food is good, there are plenty of activities, and a good mini club is available. Hotel guests can access all slopes in regions 1 and 2 with 17 facilities using an extra card. The staff are very attentive, especially the welcome at the reception is superb. Both of these hotels are established hotels in Uludağ with very experienced staff. In recent years, Ağaoğlu Hotel has also been gaining prominence.
Uludağ Activity Prices
Now you have settled into your hotel, dressed warmly, and ventured outside. First of all, if you are not equipped, there are places in the ski slope area where you can rent fully equipped ski equipment and clothing. You can rent ski sets and clothes for 150 TL per day. Let's say you get hungry during the day and don't want to return to the hotel; you can eat and drink at the cafes at the beginning of the slopes. However, they are quite expensive. If you don't know how to ski, you can take lessons from a ski instructor; the average price for this is around 170 TL for 1 person. If you want an instructor as a group, you pay 80 TL per person, and the lesson duration is 50 minutes. There are many places where you can rent snowmobiles and skis; these are generally located in Region 1, and the prices for activities are high. After putting on your ski gear and snow clothes, if you want to ski from the summit with the ski lift, you can queue up and ski down to the start of the slope for 15 TL per ride, or you can buy a daily pass and use the ski lift. However, you need to be a very good skier to use the ski lift because remember you will be skiing down a very steep and winding section. You can go to the summit by cable car for 30 TL per person. The cable car takes 10-15 minutes, and as you pass over snow-covered pine trees, you think, 'this is life.' When you reach the summit by cable car, a much colder air will greet you, so be careful! The balcony of the cafe at the summit has a different mountain view on all four sides. You can have a drink with this magnificent view. Of course, everything at the cafe on the summit is also more expensive than usual.
