Menopause

Menopause

Menopause signifies the end of fertility in women and manifests as a hormonal cycle change that reflects on almost all vital activities in the body. The age at which women enter menopause varies depending on heredity, race, climatic conditions, tobacco use, and the number of pregnancies, with the average age being around 50.

The premenopausal period begins with irregular periods, which can last from a few months to a few years until the ovaries no longer respond to the stimuli of hormones secreted by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The first symptoms of menopause are changes in character and a general state of fatigue accompanied by weight gain. Hot flashes are sometimes experienced, to a very troublesome extent.

Sometimes, the harmful effects of menopause emerge in the long term and subtly; the sexual organs gradually shrink, especially the vulva, which becomes smaller, paler, and more susceptible to infections. As a result, sexual intercourse becomes more difficult and painful, and the decrease in libido, which begins at these ages, accelerates further.
