Protect Yourself Against Vaginal Fungus Candida Albicans

Persistent itching, burning, irritation, and discharge… Candida albicans is a microorganism that causes continuous irritation in your vaginal area, exhausting you both physically and mentally, as much as it concerns your health…

Vaginal fungal infection is an extremely common disease that three-quarters of women encounter at least once in their lifetime. Men are also carriers; however, except in very severe cases, they do not feel the effects of candida as much as women.

Candida, one of the most common types of fungi, is not counted among sexually transmitted diseases; however, its frequency of becoming active increases with the initiation of sexual intercourse. It can be seen even in late-developing girls and children who have not had sexual intercourse. Candida microorganisms can be found in the vagina of completely healthy women as well. It becomes active due to various factors such as metabolic diseases, hormone use, birth control pills, diabetes, and pregnancy. Furthermore, antibiotics, which are widely used today, trigger fungal infections by destroying beneficial bacteria along with harmful ones.

Candida, which is easily diagnosed, is treated with ointments and suppositories in addition to antibiotics that suppress the infection. Since the metabolism has been infected by candida once, recurrence at the first opportunity is inevitable. However, the most important part of the treatment begins after medication use. The area should be kept dry and clean, and protection against sexually transmitted diseases should not be neglected.

Ordinary soaps and shampoos should not be preferred as they disrupt the pH balance in the vagina and increase discomfort in the area; cosmetics with a compatible pH value should be used, or cleaning with plain water should be resorted to. Since candida yeast cells multiply easily in a humid environment, staying dry is very important. Not wearing underwear immediately after bathing, preferring cotton underwear, and changing underwear frequently will be extremely beneficial. Since the genital area needs to breathe, pads or any other underwear protectors should not be used except during menstruation. Also, avoiding tight and narrow trousers will provide you with comfort.
