What Should Neck Hernia Patients Pay Attention To?
Neck hernia refers to the condition where the discs between the vertebrae in the neck slip due to aging or factors such as pressure and sudden movements. As a result of disc slippage, the nerves that transmit signals between the brain and the body are damaged. Neck hernia is characterized by discomforts such as numbness and pain in the arms, neck, and back. Muscle strength loss that develops due to pressure on the nerves causes thinning of the arms, dizziness, ringing in the ears, general fatigue, involuntary movements, and sleep disorders.
Postural Disorders
Besides traumas such as traffic accidents and falls from height, neck hernia is a health problem that those who remain immobile for long periods, especially in front of computers and those working at desks, should be mindful of. If individuals cannot avoid activities that keep them immobile, they should make their workstation ergonomically sound by adjusting the monitor, desk, and chair. One should avoid staying in a position with the head bowed and arms bent for long periods; stretching exercises for the neck muscles and body should be performed every half hour.
When sitting, attention should be paid to leaning the spine upright against the back of the chair, and positioning the head and neck to look straight ahead. Standing with the back as upright as possible; avoiding situations that strain the neck while watching television, reading, and sleeping also helps reduce pain caused by neck hernia.
