6 Rules from Katsuzo Nishi That Make Japanese People Live Long

Japanese engineer and aikido master Katsuzo Nishi was very ill as a child. The doctor who treated him told his parents that the child would not live to be 20 years old. To strengthen his health, his parents decided to send Katsuzo to a monastery for 3 years. In search of ways to improve his health, Nishi read not only the books of modern doctors in the monastery but also ancient treatises on Eastern and European medicine. As a result of years of research, Katsuzo writes a book on improving the body. The book was published in 1927, when the author was 44 years old. It is said that Nishi read about 70,000 books. He specialized in medical literature written in ancient China, India, Central Asia, Egypt, Germany, Western Europe, and many other countries. He selected only 362 books out of 70,000 and created his own wonderful system. The magnificent health system consists of only 6 rules that can truly work wonders.

1. Hard Bed

Spinal curvature, which is not uncommon, can lead to various diseases of internal organs. Therefore, you should monitor your spine and posture not only during the day but also at night. Nishi believed that a straight back makes a person a few centimeters taller and has a positive effect on the digestive system.

2. A Hard Roll Instead of a Pillow

Interestingly, most Japanese people believe that a crooked neck is one of the first signs of a short life. It is difficult to control the position of our neck during sleep, so Nishi suggests replacing ordinary pillows with a hard roll. This way, the pressure will be on the 3rd and 4th vertebrae.

3. Japanese Fish Exercise

To perform this useful movement, first lie on your back on the floor. Extend your legs as far forward as possible, bringing your toes to a perpendicular position to the ceiling. Place your hands above your head. Rest your right heel on the floor, pull your body down, and at the same time push your body with your hand in the opposite direction. Count to 7 each time you do this. Do the same for your left heel. You need to repeat 10 times with each heel. The goal is to stretch and straighten the dislocated vertebrae. Bend your arms at the elbows and place your hands under your neck. Clasp your hands together with your fingers intertwined and hold them perpendicular to the ceiling. While trying to rotate both legs to the right, move your head to the left. The spine should remain fixed. Movements should be repeated in both directions and done quickly.

4. Increasing Capillary Circulation

There is a recommended exercise to stimulate the capillaries in the organs, improve blood circulation in the body, and ensure the movement and renewal of lymph. This exercise is a good alternative to running, as it allows you to lift the load on your joints and heart, which is very important. If possible, doing it naked, in addition to the above effects, you will also activate the skin's respiration. It also helps cleanse the body of toxins. Clasp your hands together with your fingers intertwined and lift them upwards. While holding this position, try to shake your arms and legs quickly. Perform the shaking movement for 1 to 3 minutes.

5. Brain and Body Balancing Movements

Lie on a hard surface and place a firm roll under the 3rd and 4th cervical vertebrae. Bend your legs at the knees and stick your heels together without lifting them off the ground. Raise your hands up and down with your palms facing each other on your chest without opening and closing. The exercises should be repeated 10 times. This exercise helps to balance the brain and body, activating the functions of muscles, nerves, and blood vessels. By doing this, we help the diaphragm, which naturally improves blood circulation and reduces the load on the heart. This exercise also helps the functioning of our internal organs by interacting with the right and left muscles of our body.

6. Abdominal and Waist Health

The last rule that makes Japanese people the healthiest people in the world also involves a simple exercise. Sit on the floor, bend your shoulders to the right and left. Repeat all exercises 10 times. After completing each exercise movement, do the following:

  • Extend your arms forward and place your palms parallel to the floor.
  • Turn your head to your left shoulder and look back, repeat the same movement with your right shoulder.
  • Do the same movements with your hands placed behind your head.
